<strong>Bay State Bike Week</strong></p>
<p>May is National Bike Month and Massachusetts is doing its part to celebrate                       this event with Bay State Bike Week &amp; Challenge, May 12th -18th,                       2008. The goal of the challenge is for the Commonwealth&#8217;s commuters to collectively ride 50,000 miles during the week to help reduce carbon emissions, save gas, and save money. Those who register for the free challenge and commit to riding at least once during the week will be entered into a raffle for a new bike and a training session with a former Olympic cyclist.</p>

<strong>&#8220;Geothermal Installer Certification Training: Installation 101,&#8221; by HeatSpring Energy</strong></p>

<p>This comprehensive 3-day certification training course, offered by HeatSpring Energy, was developed by the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA). It combines combines classroom learning from a certified instructor having more than 20 years of U.S. geothermal experience with hands-on, step-by-step experience specific to a closed-loop system installation. The instructor, Dr. Charles Remund, is a professor at South Dakota State University, as well as an entrepreneur with several small businesses in the geothermal industry.</p>
<p>The workshop concludes with an open-book certification exam. Upon successful completion of the course and exam, attendees will be certified by IGSHPA and listed as an &#8220;Accredited Geothermal Installer&#8221; in the IGSHPA and HeatSpring Energy directories.</p>

<strong> &#8220;Growing Controversy: Global Perspective on Biofuels, Climate &amp; Food&#8221;</strong></p>
<p>Salt Pond Visitor Center, Cape Cod National Seashore</p>
<p>Biofuels expert  <strong><span style="font-weight: bold">Curt Felix </span></strong>is featured speaker at  the April meeting of CI<em><span style="font-style: italic">Renew</span></em>. He  will discuss latest scientific understanding of the impacts of current and  future biofuel usage on energy security, food production, and climate change  challenges. His talk will reflect his recent efforts in <st1:country-region w:st="on">Argentina</st1:country-region> and <st1:country-region w:st="on">Brazil</st1:country-region> working with farmers, cooperatives, and  agricultural firms to explore the feasibility of supplying biofuels to the  <st1:place w:st="on">Northeast U.S.</st1:place> on a sustainable basis. The  forum, cosponsored by the Cape Cod Renewable Fuels Partnership, is free and open  to the public; light refreshments will be served.</p>
<p>Mr. Felix has over 25  years experience in the global energy industry. While working with the World  Bank, he developed international energy conservation programs and innovative  approaches for factoring environmental externalities into system planning and  operations and environmental and economic considerations into fuel switching  decisions. His career also includes development of a compressed natural gas  vehicle facility at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Logan</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Airport</st1:placetype></st1:place> and 10 years in the petroleum  exploration, refining, and production industry. Recently, he has been building  an integrated team focused on supplying 50 to 150 million gallons of biodiesel  from South America to the <st1:place w:st="on">New England</st1:place> and  Mid-Atlantic region.</p>
<p>The meeting will  conclude with Q&amp;A and time for conversation and networking. Information will  be available on CI<em><span style="font-style: italic">Renew</span></em>  membership and on local clean energy programs and activities.</p>
