State’s First Platinum-Certified Home Shows How It’s Done
The home inhabited by Jeff Rogers and family on 9 Sunset Road in Truro looks like many other local residences. But it was recently certified as among the greenest abodes in the country, earning a Platinum rating according to the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) rating system.
The home is a net-zero energy consumer, with solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, and geothermal systems producing sufficient electricity and heat to meet its total annual energy budget. Passive solar design practices combined with a tight building envelope, advanced windows, and high-efficiency lighting and appliances make this not only possible but economical.
Green materials are used both inside and out. Low-maintenance landscaping completes the picture. Almost every building product used to create this eco-friendly home is available from the New England Green Building Center in Provincetown.
